The Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) has distanced itself from statements and commentaries allegedly made by a suspended officer, Mr. Akinsipe Victor Tope, describing them as misleading and incapable of representing the official position of the agency.
In a statement issued by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, the agency said Akinsipe is currently under suspension and has no authority to speak on behalf of the Amotekun Corps, its leadership, or personnel.
The agency urged members of the public to disregard any publication or commentary credited to the suspended officer, stressing that such statements reflect only his personal views.
Amotekun also referenced a recent court ruling, saying the court affirmed the need for due process and upheld the powers of law enforcement agencies to investigate allegations against Akinsipe and others. According to the Corps, the allegations include criminal defamation and actions capable of inciting the public against the agency’s leadership.
The statement noted that the court recognised the authority of law enforcement agencies to investigate and, where necessary, prosecute individuals in accordance with the law.
The Corps warned that attempts to evade lawful investigations through misinformation or public propaganda would not override the constitutional responsibilities of security agencies or obstruct the administration of justice.
Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, discipline, transparency and the protection of lives and property, the agency said it would not be distracted by campaigns aimed at undermining public confidence in the institution.
The agency further advised the public to obtain information about the Ondo State Amotekun Corps only through its official communication channels and authorised spokespersons.
