President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a swipe at former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, questioning his leadership credentials and mocking his record in tackling erosion during his time in office.
Tinubu made the remarks on Friday, November 6, while addressing a gathering in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he criticised Obi’s ambition to become president in 2027.
The President reportedly questioned whether his intellectual capacity could be compared with that of the former Anambra governor.
“You want to compare my brain with that of Peter Obi? He ran away from erosion in Anambra and now wants to be president, president of where?” Tinubu was quoted as saying.
He accused Obi of failing to confront the erosion challenges in Anambra State, contrasting the former governor’s record with his own efforts to address coastal challenges in Lagos.
“I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, confronted the Atlantic Ocean. I tamed it for you,” he said.
Tinubu also criticised Obi’s political movements, questioning his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and contest under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The President further questioned Obi’s leadership character and ability to manage political relationships, asking supporters whether his actions demonstrated the qualities required of a national leader.
The comments come amid intensifying political exchanges between the ruling APC and opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general election.
