The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has directed its members, aspirants and candidates to continue their political activities and preparations for the 2027 general elections despite a Federal High Court judgment nullifying the party’s leadership under former Senate President David Mark.
The party’s National Legal Adviser, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, gave the directive during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Friday, November 6.
Osunbor maintained that the party remained on solid legal ground, arguing that the latest judgment conflicted with three earlier Federal High Court decisions which, according to him, upheld the Mark-led leadership.
He said the party was considering its legal options and expressed confidence that it would overcome the challenge.
“We stand on solid ground. We know that we have survived other intrigues thrown our way,” Osunbor said.
The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, had on Thursday, November 5, nullified the emergence of the Mark-led leadership and invalidated decisions taken under it, including the process that produced former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate.
The ADC subsequently filed an appeal and an application for a stay of execution, while notifying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the legal proceedings.
The party has also urged INEC not to take consequential steps on the judgment pending the determination of the appeal.
Osunbor appealed to members and candidates not to panic, abandon their political engagements or lose confidence in the party’s preparations for the next general election.
