The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars, academic credentials and nomination documents of President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party candidate Peter Obi and other presidential candidates contesting the January 16, 2027 election for public scrutiny.
The exercise, conducted in line with the Electoral Act and the commission’s timetable for the 2027 general election, allows Nigerians to examine the documents and challenge the nomination of any candidate where there is evidence of false declarations or forged certificates.
The documents, contained in Form EC9 and supporting affidavits, have been displayed at INEC offices across the country.
In a statement issued by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Esther Emeh, the commission said the publication is intended to promote transparency and enable political parties, candidates, stakeholders and members of the public to inspect the credentials submitted during the nomination process.
According to INEC, the documents include candidates’ personal information, educational qualifications, occupations, employment history, sworn affidavits and supporting certificates.
The commission urged Nigerians to carefully scrutinise the documents, noting that anyone who believes a candidate submitted false information or forged documents has the right to seek legal redress under the Electoral Act.
INEC cited the provisions of the Electoral Act, which empower any person with reasonable grounds to institute legal proceedings against a candidate suspected of making false declarations in documents submitted to the commission.
Reaffirming its commitment to credible elections, the electoral body said it remains dedicated to transparency, accountability and the conduct of free, fair and credible polls ahead of the 2027 general election.
