The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly known as cooking gas, has continued to ease in several parts of Nigeria, offering some relief to households after months of high energy costs.
A market survey conducted across Abuja and surrounding areas showed that the price of cooking gas has fallen to as low as ₦1,300 per kilogram, compared to about ₦1,450 per kilogram recorded in recent weeks, depending on the location and retailer.
Several major filling stations have adjusted their prices downward. Ranoil now sells LPG at ₦1,350 per kilogram, Shafa dispenses the product at ₦1,300 per kilogram, while AP Ardova sells at ₦1,400 per kilogram. These prices represent a reduction from the previous range of ₦1,450 to ₦1,500 per kilogram.
The downward trend has also been reflected at the wholesale level, where depot owners are now selling LPG for between ₦997 and ₦1,030 per kilogram, compared to previous prices of up to ₦1,100 per kilogram.
Across residential districts including Dawaki, Kubwa, Gwarimpa and Lugbe, many independent gas retailers have reduced their prices to about ₦1,500 per kilogram, down from approximately ₦1,700 per kilogram.
The latest price adjustment comes amid a significant increase in LPG imports into the country.
According to data released by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for June 2026, imports of Liquefied Petroleum Gas surged by 1,400 per cent, reaching 1.5 kilotonnes per day during the month.
