Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has suspended activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across the state following the killing of his aide, Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade.
Oyeyemi was reportedly shot dead on Sunday in Ile-Ife during a clash linked to a dispute over control of a motor park.
Reacting to the incident, Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police to immediately identify and arrest all persons found to have been involved in the killing.
The governor also ordered the immediate evacuation of rival groups from motor parks affected by the dispute and directed security agencies to restore peace and maintain law and order across the state.
The directives were contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
According to the statement, the governor took the measures as part of efforts to prevent further violence arising from disputes over the control and management of motor parks.
Oyeyemi was reportedly attending a meeting involving some of his supporters and NURTW officials when armed men allegedly invaded the venue and shot him in the head.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of a reported struggle over the leadership of motor parks in the state.
Adeleke has also ordered the reintroduction of the Park Management System as part of a broader plan to regulate the operations of motor parks and garages across Osun.
