Wike Mocks Peter Obi Over Reported Move to NDC

By George Omagbemi Sylvester

Nyesom Wike has criticised Peter Obi over his reported defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the former Labour Party presidential candidate of moving from one political platform to another without resolving internal crises.

Wike made the remarks on May 6, 2026, during a media chat in Abuja, where he questioned Obi’s leadership capacity and political consistency. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory alleged that Obi had failed to stabilise parties he previously belonged to, including APGA, the PDP, Labour Party, and the ADC.

The former Rivers State governor further claimed that Obi’s political decisions were driven by convenience rather than ideology, saying the opposition figure was always searching for where “food is ready.”

Obi is yet to officially respond to Wike’s comments as of the time of filing this report.

However, his reported alignment with the NDC has continued to generate reactions within Nigeria’s political space ahead of the 2027 general elections.
