Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has said he will not make unrealistic promises of immediate 24-hour electricity supply, but assured Nigerians that visible improvements in power delivery will be achieved within a short period.
Tegbe made the statement on May 6, 2026, during his screening before the Senate, where lawmakers questioned him on the country’s persistent electricity challenges, including grid collapse, estimated billing, and poor transmission infrastructure.
The minister stated that stabilising the national grid would be a major priority within his first 100 days in office. He also pledged reforms aimed at improving metering, strengthening transmission systems, and enforcing operational discipline across the sector.
According to Tegbe, Nigerians should expect measurable progress rather than political promises, noting that the power sector requires transparency, accountability, and coordinated reforms to function effectively.
His remarks come amid growing public frustration over recurring blackouts and unstable electricity supply across the country.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier assured Nigerians that the Federal Government was taking steps to improve power supply through ongoing sector reforms and infrastructure investments.
