Tinubu’s government leads Nigeria into borrowing History -Peter Obi

By Paul Joseph

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, has asserted that Tinubu’s administration has taken on more debt than any previous government, noting that much of this debt will not be repaid until 2045 and 2050, by which time many of those responsible for the country’s financial troubles will no longer be in power.

Regarding his departure from the Labour Party, Obi explained, “Democracy must function. I left the Labour Party after learning that as long as I remained, INEC would not recognize its leadership and that the federal government did not want me on the ballot. However, I want to assure you that I will run in the upcoming election, regardless of the circumstances, and if they refuse to transmit the results, we will do it for them.”

He emphasized that Nigeria must get it right in 2027, insisting that election results should be transmitted online in real time, and that anyone who fails to do so should be held accountable.

Obi promised that his administration would make significant investments in education and healthcare if elected, arguing that many successful countries achieved their status through deliberate investment in education. He expressed his commitment to alleviating poverty to help reduce crime rates.

The presidential hopeful stated he would travel across the country and visit higher education institutions to understand the real challenges faced, emphasizing his desire to help fix Nigeria while he still has the energy to tackle difficult tasks. He urged those joining him in his mission to prioritize the future and well-being of the people.

Speaking in Uyo at the OBIDIENT Conference and Official Declaration for ADC, themed “Activating the PO Effect in ADC,” Obi called on the public to unite with him to rescue Nigeria for future generations, who he believes will bear the brunt of the poor governance that has persisted for decades.

The former governor of Anambra stated that the current administration has taken on more loans than any previous one, noting that most of these loans will be due for repayment between 2045 and 2050, by which time many of those responsible for the country’s debt will likely be gone.

He pledged to eliminate corruption in Nigeria, asserting that it could be reduced by 60 percent if a leader and their family are not involved in corrupt practices.

He mentioned that he has credible information suggesting that the federal government does not want him to run for office, but he remains determined to participate, even if the elections are metaphorically held in their “bedroom.” He recounted that when he became governor of Anambra State, he advised his wife to disregard the role of first lady since they were not elected together.

He approved over 100 certificates of occupancy for government lands but has not taken any for himself or his family, inviting anyone who finds otherwise to report him to the appropriate authorities.

Additionally, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, the coordinator of the OBEDIENT movement worldwide, called on Nigerians to mobilize from every corner of the country for the 2027 general election.

He encouraged them to focus their collective efforts on the African Democratic Congress as the means for achieving transformation and success in 2027. Meanwhile, Dr. Ben Smith, the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the OBIDIENT movement, urged members to remain united in their objectives, warning that divisions or factions could hinder the vision of a new Nigeria.
