Protesters led by activist Omoyele Sowore stormed the Abuja headquarters of MTN Nigeria, demanding an end to what they described as exploitative data charges and poor service delivery.
The protest took place on May 6, 2026, with demonstrators chanting “MTN Ole!” while calling on the telecommunications company to reduce the rising cost of data subscriptions and improve network quality.
Protesters accused the company of excessive billing and inadequate service despite increasing consumer spending on telecommunications.
Some demonstrators also demanded stronger intervention from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), arguing that telecom operators should be held accountable for service quality and pricing.
Videos from the scene showed protesters gathered at the company’s premises carrying placards and chanting slogans against the network provider.
The protest comes amid growing public frustration over telecommunications costs in Nigeria, especially following recent complaints from subscribers over rapid data depletion and unstable internet services.
As of the time of filing this report, MTN Nigeria had not issued an official statement on the demonstration.
