Poll Shows Only 27% of Americans Back Trump’s Iran Strike

Poll released on 1 March 2026 shows that just about 27 percent of U.S. adults support the military strikes ordered by President Donald Trump against Iran; the lowest backing for U.S. military action in modern American history. In contrast, 43 percent disapproved and 29 percent were undecided, indicating broad scepticism toward the conflict. The survey of 1,282 adults was conducted online during the early days of the bombardment, which began the previous weekend, and just before U.S. officials publicly confirmed three American service members were killed and five seriously wounded in the campaign.

The poll also highlighted deep partisan and ideological splits: while a small majority of Republicans initially approved, over half within the GOP said they might withdraw support if U.S. troops suffered casualties. A strong 56 percent overall said the president is “too willing” to use military force, a view shared by the vast majority of Democrats and a significant portion of independents.

Analysts tie this lack of broad support to war fatigue among Americans, concerns over rising oil prices, and distrust of foreign interventions without clear strategic goals or Congressional authorization.
