Senator Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, declaring that the former Minister of Transportation is not worth spending airtime discussing, amid growing political exchanges ahead of the 2027 general election.
Oshiomhole made the remarks during an interview on TVC while reacting to Amaechi’s comments that President Bola Tinubu faces stronger opposition from southern politicians, whereas former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has fewer challengers because he is from the North.
“If you know Amaechi, you won’t waste airtime talking about him,” Oshiomhole said.
The former Edo State governor questioned Amaechi’s political consistency, particularly over the dispute surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary that produced Atiku as its candidate.
According to Oshiomhole, Amaechi had described the process as fraudulent, accused Atiku of taking a mandate he did not win and subsequently challenged the outcome in court.
Oshiomhole also alleged that Atiku later approached Amaechi to reach an agreement over the disputed primary.
He further questioned Amaechi’s political rise, recalling that the Supreme Court paved the way for his emergence as Rivers State governor in 2007, before former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him Minister of Transportation in 2015.
The senator also criticised Amaechi for describing other political figures as ethnic champions, arguing that the former governor had presented himself as different from other politicians before the ADC primary.
The exchange reflects growing disagreements within opposition circles as political actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
However, Oshiomhole’s allegations and interpretation of Amaechi’s political record remain his own assertions. The former Rivers governor’s comments that triggered the response centred on the regional spread of political challengers to Tinubu and Atiku.
