Many people know Pastor Kalejaiye today as a senior leader in RCCG, a member of the Governing Council and the Intercontinental Evangelist.
But in the 90s, he was a young area pastor in Lagos whose anointing programmes gathered crowds.
Reports at that time had it that people travelled from different parts of Lagos and other parts of the country just to attend. The grace was visible. His name spread quickly.
Then came the trap that has finished many gifted men.
Some voices started saying quietly, “This young man is more anointed than Pastor Adeboye.”
What did Kalejaiye do? He did not enjoy it. He corrected it immediately.
In one of those services, he openly said some people were trying to set him up with the comparison that he is more anointed than Daddy Adeboye. He told the church clearly that he was still a small boy when compared to Daddy GO.
He chose to publicly reject what many would have privately enjoyed.
That became his pattern. Instead of drawing attention to himself, he kept pointing people to his father.
He would often tell his own congregation that what they were experiencing in his meeting was little compared to what God was doing through Pastor Adeboye at Redemption Camp. He invited people to go and see.
It was loyalty. It was honour. It was understanding of order.
And God honoured that loyalty. Today, the same young pastor is one of the most trusted sons in the house. The youngest in council, yet carrying a continental assignment.
There is a principle here.
The tension of David with Saul began after the women sang, “Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands” – 1 Samuel 18:7. The Bible says from that day, Saul looked at David differently – 1 Samuel 18:9.
The same principle from heaven – Lucifer desired the honour that belonged to God alone – Isaiah 14:12-14.
Comparison can create battles where there was none. Humility closes that door.
So here is the wisdom for any son, any staff, any rising leader: Your gift may open a door, but it is honour and humility that will keep you inside.
Never compete with the hand that is lifting you. Celebrate your father and let God announce you.
Have you seen humility preserve a man in ministry or at work? Share respectfully – Someone rising needs to hear it.
