A 43‑year‑old man identified as Adewale (surname withheld) allegedly beat his younger brother, Oluwaseun, to death in Okeho‑Iseyin, Oyo State, Nigeria, after claiming that Oluwaseun had shot him in a dream. The tragic incident has shocked neighbours and raised concerns about mental health awareness in the community.
The attack occurred on Saturday, March 7, 2026, when Adewale reportedly confronted his brother at their family compound and physically assaulted him with wooden and metal objects. Victims of the assault attempted to intervene, but Adewale continued to beat Oluwaseun until he collapsed. Friends and neighbours rushed the injured man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police sources told reporters that Adewale later told officers he believed his brother was responsible for shooting him in a dream, which triggered his violent reaction. The Oyo State Police Command has since arrested Adewale and taken him into custody for investigation. Officers said they are reviewing the case to determine whether mental instability played a role in the attack.
The incident highlights persistent concerns about how untreated psychological issues and misunderstandings are managed in communities, especially in regions where access to mental health care is limited. Local leaders have called for calm and urged residents to report unusual behaviours to authorities early to prevent further tragedies.
