Another police shooting incident has reportedly occurred in Delta State, days after the controversial killing of Mene Ogidi triggered nationwide outrage and renewed concerns over police brutality in Nigeria.
The incident surfaced on May 7, 2026, with reports alleging that a man was shot by police operatives in Delta under circumstances that are still being investigated. The development comes shortly after Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman was arrested and recommended for dismissal and prosecution over the extrajudicial killing of Mene Ogidi in Effurun.
The killing of Ogidi had sparked widespread condemnation after a viral video showed the handcuffed suspect being shot at close range by a police officer.
Authorities subsequently confirmed disciplinary action against officers involved in the incident.
The latest reported shooting has intensified public anger, with many Nigerians questioning ongoing police reforms and accountability measures within the force.
