A nursing mother, Firdausi Ahmad, has approached a Sharia Court in Kaduna, seeking divorce and a monthly ₦10,000 allowance for her eight-month-old daughter’s needs and breastfeeding.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ahmad’s lawyer, Sani Sunusi, told the court on Thursday, October 29, 2026, that his client had been married to her husband, Malam Anas, for three years.
The lawyer alleged that Anas had asked his wife to return to her parents’ home until he gave her permission to return to their matrimonial residence.
He further told the court that the husband had neither visited his wife nor checked on their baby since they left the home.
The woman is seeking dissolution of the marriage through Khul’i, a form of divorce initiated by a wife under Islamic law. She is reportedly willing to return her ₦100,000 bride price.
Her lawyer also asked the court to order the husband to pay ₦10,000 monthly for the child’s needs and breastfeeding support.
The husband was absent from the court proceedings.
Presiding judge Yakubu Abdullahi adjourned the case until November 11, 2026, for the complainant to present her witness or evidence. The court registrar was directed to invite the husband and ensure his attendance.
The case remains pending, and no final ruling has been reported.
