Peter Obi Promises Emergency Measures Against Insecurity, Corruption and Hunger

By George Omagbemi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has promised emergency measures to tackle insecurity, corruption, hunger and poverty if elected president in 2027.

Obi made the promises at an event in Abuja marking the inauguration of the party’s National Presidential Campaign Council and the presentation of certificates to its candidates.

The former Anambra State governor said his administration would prioritise practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges, promising Nigerians measurable results from the first day in office.

According to reports by ThisDay, Obi pledged to strengthen security, address kidnapping and violent attacks, and respond promptly to communities affected by insecurity.

He also promised to boost agricultural production, particularly in northern Nigeria, where insecurity has disrupted farming activities. He argued that improving farmers’ access to their land would increase food production, create employment and help reduce food prices.

On corruption, Obi pledged to ensure that public funds were used for the benefit of citizens rather than diverted for private interests.

He further promised interventions in education, healthcare and electricity, including a functional primary healthcare centre in every ward within two years of assuming office.

Obi also proposed improved access to credit and incentives for small businesses to encourage investment and job creation.

The pledges form part of his campaign agenda ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Their implementation would depend on funding, effective policies and cooperation across government institutions.
