NNPCL reacts as NDLEA seizes 2,145kg cannabis from branded truck

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has denied ownership of a truck branded with its logo after the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted it with 2,145kg of cannabis in Ondo State.

The vehicle, registration number MKA 960 XC, reportedly had the cannabis concealed in a secret compartment.

In a statement on Monday, NNPCL spokesperson Andy Odeh said preliminary checks showed that the truck was neither owned by the company nor part of its official fleet or that of its authorised dealers.

He said the logo on the vehicle was also inconsistent with NNPCL’s current branding.

According to him, NNPCL is engaging the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to establish how the company’s old branding came to be used on the vehicle.

The oil company said it takes the unauthorised use of its corporate identity seriously, particularly when linked to unlawful activities.

NNPCL added that it was reviewing its brand-protection and asset-monitoring measures and would take legal action where necessary.
