Katsina United Player Chinedu Ozor Finally Confirmed Dead After ‘Resurrection’ Scare

Katsina United midfielder Chinedu Ozor has finally been confirmed dead after a dramatic mix-up over his condition triggered reports that the former Kano Pillars player had regained signs of life after being taken to the mortuary.

Ozor collapsed less than 10 minutes into Katsina United’s pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Despite attempts by medical personnel to revive him, the player was pronounced dead and taken towards the mortuary.

The situation took an unexpected turn when reports emerged that Ozor had raised an arm while he was being wheeled into the mortuary. The development reportedly prompted his family to request that oxygen be administered and that further medical checks be conducted.

Katsina United Media Officer, Nasirani Gide, said the player was placed on oxygen following the family’s intervention while medical personnel continued monitoring him.

Gide explained that after 24 hours, a doctor formally confirmed Ozor’s death, after which his body was deposited at the Katsina General Hospital.

The incident subsequently triggered widespread speculation on social media, with some reports claiming that the footballer had “come back to life.”

Katsina United, however, moved to dispel the reports, stressing that Ozor never regained consciousness.

The club said the family’s desperate hope that he might still be alive should not be misconstrued as a recovery.

“He did not regain consciousness. He passed away,” the club stated.

The club appealed to the public and media organisations to refrain from spreading rumours or unverified reports concerning the circumstances surrounding the player’s death.

Katsina United said Ozor’s teammates, friends and officials were mourning alongside his family, describing his death as a devastating loss.

The club also appealed for respect for the privacy of the bereaved family and urged the public to allow the player to be remembered with dignity.

“Behind every post, every headline and every video is a grieving family,” the club said.

Ozor’s death has cast a shadow over Katsina United’s pre-season activities, with the club and the football community mourning the sudden loss of the player.
