The Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Doguwa, has officially resigned from his position, the state government confirmed on Tuesday.
The resignation, which took effect on Monday, March 2, 2026, was announced in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Sanusi Bature. Governor Abba Yusuf has accepted Doguwa’s resignation.
According to the statement, Doguwa formally submitted his resignation on Monday, ending a tenure of approximately one year at the Ministry of Water Resources following his redeployment from the Ministry of Education.
Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for Doguwa’s dedication, loyalty, and service to the people of Kano State.
He highlighted Doguwa’s previous contributions as Commissioner for Education, where he played a key role in implementing educational reforms, including declaring a state of emergency in the sector.
During his time at the Ministry of Water Resources, Doguwa oversaw notable achievements, particularly in the rehabilitation of water facilities and the expansion of potable water supply to numerous communities.
Governor Yusuf said Doguwa’s leadership strengthened institutional capacity within the ministry and enhanced service delivery, advancing the administration’s goal of sustainable access to water for residents.
Describing Doguwa as disciplined and hardworking, the governor affirmed that his contributions would remain part of the administration’s achievements and wished him success in future endeavors.
In the interim, Governor Yusuf has directed the Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, to oversee the Ministry of Water Resources pending the appointment or redeployment of a substantive commissioner.
This marks the latest in a series of changes within the Kano State executive council, as the administration continues to reposition key ministries for optimal service delivery.
