The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to publish the final list of candidates for the 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The commission disclosed the date as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections, with political parties and candidates moving deeper into the campaign season.
INEC had earlier published the personal particulars of candidates nominated by political parties for the governorship and State Assembly elections. The final publication will formally set out the candidates cleared to contest the polls.
The commission has also published the final list of candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives elections, which was released on September 12, 2026.
However, the final governorship and State Assembly list comes amid legal questions following a recent Supreme Court judgment. INEC is reviewing the certified judgment to determine its implications for some nominations before completing the process.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, has said the commission remains committed to neutrality, operational efficiency and the integrity of the electoral process as preparations continue.
The commission’s official timetable lists the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections for February 6, 2027, while the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16.
The October 10 publication will therefore provide voters, political parties and other stakeholders with the official candidate list for the state-level contests ahead of the 2027 elections.
