FIFA has dismissed reports claiming its president, Gianni Infantino, promised Morocco the right to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final, insisting that no decision has been made on the venue for the tournament’s showpiece match.
The world football governing body issued the clarification on Wednesday amid speculation that Infantino had offered the final to Morocco as he seeks to retain his position.
In a statement, FIFA described the reports as inaccurate.
“It is false and misleading to claim the FIFA President has made any promise in relation to hosting the FIFA World Cup 2030 Final.
“A decision will be made by FIFA in due course.”
The statement is the first official response from FIFA following claims that Morocco had been assured of staging the final of the centenary edition of the tournament.
Spain is also seeking to host the 2030 World Cup final.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese Football Federation declined to comment when approached by TalkSPORT over the reports.
