Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has acknowledged the economic hardship facing Nigerians but said President Bola Tinubu has succeeded in stabilising the country’s economy since taking office.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he assessed the country’s economic situation.

Responding to a question on whether Nigerians were experiencing hardship, the senator answered in the affirmative but argued that the administration had made progress in managing the broader economy.

“Of course, yes. But let me tell you, President Tinubu has been able to stabilize the macro part of the economy,” Kalu said.

He maintained that the major challenge confronting Nigerians lies at the grassroots level, which he linked to persistent insecurity across parts of the country.

According to him, insurgency and banditry have prevented many farmers from cultivating their land and disrupted productive economic activities.

“What we are suffering today is the micro side of the economy, where, because of insurgency, people can’t go to farms. People are running away from what they are supposed to do because of bandits,” he said.
