The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has called for stronger democratic institutions as a foundation for stability, justice, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
The governor made the remarks on Friday during the commissioning of the Ondo Branch Bar Centre of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Ondo City, a facility donated by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Tayo Oyetibo.
Aiyedatiwa said enduring societies are built not only on material resources but on strong institutions capable of preserving knowledge, values, and constitutional order across generations.
He described the new Bar Centre as more than a physical structure, calling it a symbol of intellectual discipline, professional excellence, philanthropy, and institutional continuity within the legal profession.
“By donating this Bar Centre, the benefactor has not only built a structure but established a lasting monument to scholarship, professional solidarity and the advancement of justice,” the governor said.
He commended Oyetibo for what he described as exemplary patriotism and commitment to strengthening the legal profession, noting that such contributions help reinforce democratic governance.
The governor also praised the NBA Ondo Branch for its role in promoting rule of law and professional development, describing the legal profession as a “guardian of constitutional order” and a critical pillar of democracy.
Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening justice institutions and ensuring access to fair and effective governance, stressing that democracy can only thrive where institutions remain credible and independent.
He urged young lawyers to embrace discipline and excellence, expressing optimism that the new Bar Centre would serve as a hub for learning, mentorship, and intellectual growth.
In his remarks, Oyetibo said the facility was designed to enhance professional development, unity, and legal practice, adding that investing in lawyers is ultimately an investment in society.
Other dignitaries at the event praised the initiative, describing it as a major boost to the legal profession and justice administration in the state.
