Zamfara Police Nabs Suspect with 800 Rounds of Live Ammunition in Major Crackdown

The Zamfara State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspect found in possession of a large cache of live ammunition.

On the evening of March 10, 2026, at approximately 7:50 PM, police officers conducting routine patrols along the Gusau–Funtua Federal Road at the Yankara checkpoint intercepted a suspicious motorcycle. Acting on credible intelligence, the officers stopped and searched the rider, Mannir Adam, a 25-year-old man from Yankuzo Village in Tsafe Local Government Area.

A meticulous search of the motorcycle revealed a shocking discovery: 800 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, carefully concealed inside the fuel tank. The suspect was reportedly traveling from Unguwar Bawa in Kaduna State to Kucheri Village in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara.

The suspect and the ammunition were promptly taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Authorities are now working to uncover any additional members of the criminal network involved.

Zamfara State Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime and safeguarding residents. He urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies to enhance security across the state.

This arrest underscores the police’s resolve to clamp down on illegal arms and criminal activities in Zamfara, ensuring a safer environment for all citizens.
