The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of steadily losing political relevance in Nigeria, attributing the decline to ongoing internal conflicts and a lack of coherent ideological focus.
On Friday, March 13, 2026, APC chieftains in Lagos issued a statement asserting that the PDP’s persistent leadership struggles, factional disagreements, and failure to present a clear policy agenda have weakened the opposition party’s influence both nationally and within key states. According to the ruling party in Lagos, these challenges have hindered the PDP’s ability to effectively mobilise support and offer a compelling alternative to voters ahead of upcoming elections.
APC leaders argued that the PDP’s internal disarray has created an “identity crisis,” leaving the party directionless and unable to unify its members around a shared vision. They insisted that a strong political organisation must demonstrate unity, ideological clarity, and strategic planning — areas where they claim the PDP has fallen short. The Lagos APC’s criticisms reflect longstanding tensions between the two major parties as they prepare for future electoral contests and jockey for influence across Nigeria’s political terrain.
In response, PDP supporters have challenged the APC’s assertions, saying such claims are politically motivated and meant to distract from pressing national issues. The debate underscores the intensifying rivalry between Nigeria’s leading political parties.
