Tension gripped Isua Akoko in Ondo State as women in the community took to the streets in a passionate but peaceful protest against the rising wave of kidnappings in the area.
The demonstrators, made up largely of mothers and elderly women, expressed outrage over what they described as incessant abductions that have thrown the community into fear. Chanting songs of lamentation and solidarity, the women called on security agencies and the government to urgently intervene and restore safety to the town and its surrounding villages.
In an emotional display, the protesters openly rained curses on any indigenous individuals allegedly collaborating with criminal elements to compromise security in the community. They warned that anyone found aiding kidnappers or providing information to criminals would face both communal and divine consequences.
The women said the protest was driven by deep pain and frustration, noting that residents can no longer sleep with both eyes closed. According to them, the continued attacks threaten the livelihoods of farmers, traders and families who depend on daily economic activities for survival.
They demanded a stronger and more visible security presence in Isua Akoko, insisting that the safety of lives and property must be treated as a top priority.
Despite the strong emotions displayed, the protest remained orderly, with participants maintaining a peaceful stance while urging authorities to act swiftly before the situation escalates further.
