Israel carried out fresh dawn airstrikes on Tehran and Beirut on Tuesday, escalating tensions in the Middle East as the United States warned that more forceful action against Iran could follow.
The Israeli military confirmed it had launched new strikes on Iran’s capital, Tehran, just days after a joint US-Israeli operation targeted key sites in the country. On Saturday, the United States and Israel struck Iran, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei a move that has dramatically intensified the conflict.
In Lebanon, Israel also carried out multiple strikes in Beirut and issued evacuation warnings for parts of southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military said it was targeting positions linked to Hezbollah, vowing that operations would not end until what it described as the threat was fully “removed.”
Lebanon’s health officials reported that at least 52 people were killed in the latest strikes, while hundreds of residents in Beirut were forced to flee their homes and seek shelter.
Video footage showed smoke billowing above buildings and debris scattered across streets following powerful explosions.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that “the hardest hits” on Iran were “yet to come,” though he declined to provide details of Washington’s military strategy.
“I will not give away details of our tactical efforts,” he said, underscoring the seriousness of the ongoing campaign.
The escalation follows comments by former US President Donald Trump, who said he had taken the decision to launch war against Iran because it represented the “last, best chance” to halt the country’s regime.
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that a command and staff building at a US air base in Bahrain had been destroyed.
The US embassy in Riyadh was also reportedly hit by two drones, further widening the regional fallout from the conflict.
As strikes continue in both Iran and Lebanon, international concern is mounting that the confrontation could spiral into a broader regional war, with diplomatic efforts struggling to keep pace with rapidly unfolding military developments.
