The Federal Government of Nigeria, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved ₦48 billion to upgrade engineering and technology facilities at 12 selected universities across the six geopolitical zones. The approval was announced in Abuja on 2 March 2026 by Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, during the launch of the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation Committee on TETFund Special High‑Impact Intervention Projects.
Under the initiative; implemented through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) each institution will receive ₦4 billion to rehabilitate workshops, upgrade laboratories and procure modern equipment aimed at narrowing the gap between academic training and industry expectations.
Beneficiary institutions include Federal University of Technology, Minna; Federal University of Technology, Akure; Federal University of Technology, Babura; Federal University of Technology, Ikot‑Abasi; Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Nigerian Army University, Biu; African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; Shehu Shagari University of Education, Sokoto; Enugu State University of Science and Technology; Delta State University, Abraka; and the University of Ilesha, Osun State.
Officials described the funding as part of broader efforts to boost technical skill development, graduate employability and innovation capacity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines, reinforcing the government’s push to align higher education with evolving economic needs.
