Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents have launched a fresh attack on Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, setting a primary school and a day secondary school on fire and forcing residents to flee for safety.
The attack reportedly began at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, throwing the community into panic as frightened villagers escaped into nearby bushes to avoid being caught in the violence.
Kautikari, a community that has endured repeated assaults by insurgents in recent years, was once again plunged into fear as flames engulfed key educational facilities.
A security operative from the village, who is currently based in Maiduguri, confirmed the incident to journalists, describing a tense and chaotic situation in the community.
“I can confirm that our village, Kautikari in Chibok Local Government Area, is under Boko Haram attack,” he said.
“Our people are fleeing for safety, while the primary school and the day secondary school have been set ablaze.”
As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties, if any, had not been confirmed.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Borno State, where communities continue to face threats from Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters despite ongoing military operations.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the Borno State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, were not returned before publication.
