Social media critic VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, has warned Afrobeats singer Davido against further involvement in Nigerian election-related discussions following his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, expressing support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
VDM made the remarks in a video circulating online on Thursday, October 15, criticising the singer over his previous comments against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his active involvement in his uncle’s political campaigns.
The controversy followed Adeleke’s appearance at the inauguration of Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday. The governor publicly declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election and pledged to mobilise support for the president’s return to office.
Adeleke, who belongs to the Accord Party, was also named as the coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign in Osun State, drawing attention to his participation in a campaign organised by the ruling APC.
Reacting to the development, VDM questioned the consistency of Davido’s earlier political positions, recalling social media posts in which the singer had criticised the APC and condemned its supporters during the Osun governorship election.
“Davido, henceforth, I don’t want to see you talking about Nigerian politics again because you’re a user and a hypocrite,” VDM said in the video, accusing the singer of using his popularity and influence to mobilise fans for political interests.
He further warned that he would publicly challenge Davido if the singer continued commenting on election matters.
VDM also questioned whether Davido had used his influence and connections to attract investments, create employment opportunities or support infrastructure development in Osun State.
The critic’s comments have generated reactions online, with the dispute renewing discussions about the role of celebrities in politics and whether entertainers should be held accountable for the political positions they promote to their followers.
Davido has previously been vocal about political issues, particularly during campaigns involving his uncle. However, his past statements do not necessarily establish his current political position, and his uncle’s support for Tinubu does not automatically mean the singer shares that position.
As of the reports reviewed, Davido had not issued a detailed public response to VDM’s latest criticism. Other reports said the singer liked a post containing the criticism, but that action alone does not establish his agreement with every allegation made.
The exchange comes as political activity intensifies ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with public figures and entertainers increasingly attracting attention for their political affiliations and statements.
