The government of the United States has issued a security alert to its citizens residing in Nigeria following escalating hostilities between Washington and Iran.
In an advisory released by the United States Department of State, American nationals abroad, particularly those in the Middle East and surrounding regions were urged to remain vigilant and closely monitor updates from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
The alert warned that ongoing military operations could lead to travel disruptions, including periodic airspace closures across affected regions. It further advised U.S. citizens worldwide to exercise increased caution amid the evolving security situation.
Americans were encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time security updates and to follow official U.S. government security communication channels for timely information.
The advisory comes amid reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in airstrikes allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel.
Following the reported strikes, Iran is said to have launched retaliatory missile attacks targeting U.S. military installations in Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, raising fears of broader regional instability.
Speaking during a live broadcast while the attacks were ongoing, U.S. President Donald Trump declared his intention to eliminate members of the Iranian regime and called on Iranian citizens to take control of their government after the conclusion of military operations.
The situation continues to develop as governments across the region assess the security and diplomatic implications of the unfolding crisis.
