Troops of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested Olamide Oyeniyi, a suspected kidnapper, and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, according to a report published on September 14, 2026.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the military to disrupt kidnapping networks and other criminal activities along major highways and communities in Edo State.
According to the report, troops intercepted Oyeniyi during the security operation and recovered the firearm and ammunition believed to be connected to criminal activities.
The Benin–Sapele Road is an important transport corridor linking Edo and Delta states, making security operations along the route significant amid persistent concerns over the safety of motorists and commuters.
Oyeniyi is expected to remain in military custody while investigations continue to establish his alleged involvement in kidnapping and determine whether he has links to other members of a criminal network.
The latest operation highlights the continued deployment of intelligence-led security measures by the Nigerian Army to tackle kidnapping, armed crime and other threats to residents and road users.
The recovery of an AK-47 also underscores the potential level of firepower available to criminal elements operating in the area and the need for sustained security operations.
