A somber mood has enveloped Kogi State Polytechnic following the sudden death of a lecturer, Mr. Anslem Ojodomo, who reportedly collapsed while delivering a lecture to students.

Ojodomo, a staff member of the Department of Public Administration, was said to have slumped in the classroom in full view of his students.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Rector of the institution, Salihu Avidime, confirmed the incident in an official statement, describing the development as shocking and profoundly heartbreaking.

He disclosed that he had interacted with the late lecturer just hours before the tragic occurrence.

Avidime paid tribute to Ojodomo’s dedication to academia, highlighting his service as Deputy Dean of Student Services and his positive influence on both students and colleagues.

The tragedy comes barely weeks after the death of another lecturer, Barnabas Akuba, who passed away shortly after completing his PhD programme an unsettling pattern that has heightened concern within the academic community.

Ojodomo, who joined the Polytechnic in 2021, earned his Master’s degree from Prince Abubakar Audu University and had recently defended his PhD proposal.

The institution is now grappling with back-to-back losses, as staff and students mourn the departed lecturer and extend condolences to his family and the people of Igalamela/Odolu.
