Supporters of the ‘Tinubu Must Come’ campaign group reportedly fled for safety after members of the opposing ‘Tinubu Must Go’ movement allegedly attacked participants at a political rally in the Jimeta axis of Yola, Adamawa State, on Wednesday.

The rally attracted hundreds of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), many of whom wore branded shirts and caps bearing the party’s logo and the inscription ‘Tinubu Must Come’ in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

The gathering reportedly involved APC supporters and party officials from ward to state levels as political groups intensified mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, the event reportedly descended into violence when members of the ‘Tinubu Must Go’ movement stormed the venue, triggering a confrontation that forced some participants to flee.

An APC woman leader from Fufore Local Government Area, Zainab Hammanjoda, recounted her narrow escape during the incident in a telephone conversation with The Trumpet, through a friend.

According to Hammanjoda, about 5,000 anti-Tinubu campaigners stormed the venue and allegedly attacked people they found campaigning for the president.

Her account suggested that participants supporting Tinubu faced threats during the confrontation. However, the reported number of people involved and the circumstances surrounding the alleged attacks could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.

Details of possible injuries, arrests or damage arising from the incident were also not immediately available.

It remained unclear what triggered the confrontation or whether security operatives intervened to restore order.

The incident comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with groups expressing opposing positions on Tinubu’s administration and his potential bid for a second term.

There was no immediate official statement from the Adamawa State Police Command regarding the reported violence.

Further details, including possible casualties, arrests and reactions from the two groups, are awaited.
