President Bola Tinubu has accused opposition politicians, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, of being responsible for the hunger and poverty confronting Nigerians.
Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday, October 24, 2026, during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally in Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to reports by Intel Region, Channels Television and TheCable, the President challenged opposition figures who have criticised his administration over the country’s economic difficulties.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger; they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” Tinubu said.
The President also defended his administration’s record, stating that salaries were being paid regularly and praising APC governors for their performance.
He urged Nigerians to support his bid for a second term, promising prosperity, continuity, progress, economic recovery and greater opportunities.
Tinubu’s comments come amid continued public debate over the cost of living, economic reforms and the impact of government policies on households and businesses.
The removal of the petrol subsidy and subsequent economic pressures have remained important issues in the political debate, with opposition figures challenging the administration’s handling of the economy.
However, Tinubu maintained that his government was working to address the challenges and urged voters to reject what he described as misleading claims from his opponents.
The campaign rally marked the APC’s formal mobilisation for the 2027 presidential election, with party leaders and supporters gathering in Kaduna.
