The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will unveil its National Campaign Council on Monday, October 26, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The party will also present its statement of account publicly during its third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, Maitama, Abuja.
The NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced the plans in a statement, describing the financial disclosure as part of the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
According to the party, its National Treasurer will present the financial statement, while the meeting will also feature the unveiling of the campaign council and the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates contesting various elective positions.
The campaign structure is expected to cover the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
The NDC also challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to make their financial records available for public scrutiny.
Explaining its financial position, the party claimed that approximately 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford expression-of-interest forms because of the economic hardship in the country. It said the affected candidates were given the forms free of charge.
The party attributed the situation to poverty, hunger and deprivation, blaming the APC-led administration’s economic policies.
The planned disclosure comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with campaign structures, funding and accountability expected to feature prominently in public debate.
Whether the NDC’s financial disclosure will encourage similar openness among other parties remains to be seen.
