Human rights activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has dismissed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive ordering the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to investigate the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, describing the move as a “cover-up” rather than a genuine attempt to uncover the truth.
Sowore made the allegation on Tuesday in a reaction to a State House press release announcing that President Tinubu had directed the anti-graft agency to conduct a thorough investigation into the activities of the council following the controversy surrounding its operations.
In a post on his verified social media account, the activist questioned the integrity of the planned investigation, alleging that the government had already exonerated the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, while taking enforcement actions against another individual connected to the matter.
According to Sowore, security operatives allegedly raided the residence of another suspect and arrested his father instead.
“They really think Nigerians are fools! You want a thorough investigation, but you have already cleared the principal suspect, Femi Gbajabiamila, raided the home of the other accused person, and arrested his father in his place, and now you want Nigerians to believe this is an investigation?” he wrote.
He added, “This is not an investigation; it is a classic cover-up.”
The Presidency has yet to respond to Sowore’s claims.
The President’s directive followed growing public scrutiny over the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, whose activities have sparked controversy in recent weeks. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission is expected to investigate the issues raised and determine whether any laws were violated.
