Think of the People, Not Politics – Kumuyi Pleads with Nigerian Leaders

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, William Kumuyi, has called on Nigeria’s political leaders to prioritise the welfare of citizens and implement policies that will ease the hardships faced by many Nigerians.

Kumuyi made the appeal on Friday, March 6, 2026 during a courtesy visit to the palace of Kelvin Anugwo, the traditional ruler and Eze Ekpeye Logbo III of the Ekpeye ethnic nationality, in Ahoada, Rivers State. The visit came ahead of the church’s global crusade scheduled to hold in the area.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Kumuyi stressed that political leaders were elected to serve the people and should focus on policies that improve citizens’ living conditions.

“Our message to the nation is for leaders to think of the people and put the people first, not the politicians first,” he said. “We elected them so they can be a blessing to us. Let them remember what we elected them for. The people are waiting to see the full performance of what they can do to relieve us from the problems and challenges we face.”

He added that the clergy across the country are praying for Nigeria’s leaders, expressing hope that they will take actions that bring relief and progress to the nation.

Kumuyi explained that his visit to Ahoada was also aimed at enlightening residents about the message of Christianity and the sufficiency of Jesus Christ in addressing human needs.

The upcoming crusade, themed “The All-Sufficient Jesus,” will focus on the belief that Christ is capable of meeting people’s spiritual, emotional, social and material needs.

“We share the same goal,” Kumuyi said of his meeting with the traditional ruler. “I want to be a blessing to the people of this kingdom, and he is the resident king and leader. By the grace of God, we are going to talk about the sufficiency of Christ.”

In his remarks, King Anugwo said Kumuyi’s previous crusade in the kingdom had brought positive changes and renewed peace to the area.

He noted that the community had previously experienced security challenges but said conditions had improved significantly following prayers and renewed community efforts.

“People can now sleep with their eyes closed,” the monarch said, adding that many indigenes returned home in large numbers to celebrate Christmas last year.

The king also revealed that the community plans to unveil a new local security outfit next week as part of efforts to strengthen safety and maintain peace in the area.
