Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, will return to Nigeria today from the United States after a trip that reunited him with his young family, from whom he had been separated for over 20 months as a result of arrests, detentions, court restrictions, and the seizure of his international passport by Nigerian security agencies.
While in the United States, Sowore interacted extensively with members of the Nigerian diaspora, participated in a major international solidarity march for Palestine, and took his campaign for diaspora voting directly to Nigerians abroad. He assured diaspora Nigerians that his administration would work to implement diaspora voting after taking office in 2027.
Sowore will arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and thereafter proceed to Abuja, where he is expected to continue with the cybercrime trial instituted against him by the State Security Service (SSS) in 2025.
The AAC presidential candidate said his return marks the beginning of another intensive phase of his nationwide campaign. He plans to traverse Nigeria, taking the message of revolutionary change to communities across the country and mobilizing Nigerians to dismantle the old political order and replace it with a new order founded on equal rights, justice, peace, progress, and economic prosperity for all Nigerians.
Sowore has maintained that the 2027 presidential election must represent a decisive break from Nigeria’s failed political establishment and an opportunity for Nigerians to take back their country and build a fundamentally different future.
