The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Thursday, February 26, 2026, ordered the arrest of the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Ishaq Magaji SAN, during a budget defence session at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
Senators on the Senate Committee on Finance, chaired by Senator Sani Musa, moved the directive after Magaji repeatedly failed to honour multiple invitations and summonses to appear before the committee to explain discrepancies in the reconciliation of the commission’s internally generated revenue (IGR).
Committee members said that on numerous occasions Magaji either refused to attend in person or sent junior officials in his place instead of answering lawmakers’ questions about the CAC’s financial reporting and revenue reconciliation practices. The refusal, legislators said, amounted to “serial disrespect” for the Senate and its oversight responsibilities.
A warrant of arrest was issued to compel his appearance before the committee to address the unclarified revenue gaps. Senators also signalled plans to withhold approval of the CAC’s 2026 budgetary allocation and restrict the commission’s spending of its IGR until Magaji personally appears before the National Assembly.
