Afrobeats star Rema has offered fans a candid look into how he prepares for his high-energy performances, revealing that a mix of tequila, a cigarette, and prayer forms part of his pre-show ritual.
Speaking to Dazed during Milan Fashion Week where he strutted the runway for Diesel the “Calm Down” hitmaker explained that the routine helps him lock into the right mindset before stepping in front of a crowd.
“A little Tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team and make sure everything is on cue,” he shared.
Rema drew a clear line between modelling and performing, noting that while fashion shows come with their own pressures, live concerts demand far more physically and mentally.
“Performing has a lot to do with your breath work, and you have to keep the crowd going,” he said, underscoring the stamina, breath control, and constant audience engagement required on stage.
According to the singer, commanding thousands of fans during a concert calls for a deeper level of preparation than walking a runway, a challenge he approaches with discipline and focus.
Beyond the stage, Rema revealed he has recently found inspiration in Sudanese cultural live music, expanding the sonic influences that shape his artistry.
Despite describing himself as committed to his craft, the Afrobeats sensation admitted that smoking cigarettes remains his biggest vice, a habit intertwined with his pre-performance ritual.
