The Nigerian entertainment and theatre community is in mourning following the death of veteran actor and celebrated stage icon, Pa Kola Oyewo.
Veteran Actor Kola Oyewo died at the age of 80.
His death was announced by fellow actor Kunle Afod in a post on Instagram on Friday, June 12.
Popularly regarded as one of the finest voices in Nigerian theatre, Pa Oyewo’s passing marks the end of an era in the country’s performing arts industry. His remarkable career, which spanned several decades, left an indelible imprint on both the stage and screen, inspiring generations of actors, playwrights and theatre enthusiasts.
Known for his commanding performances, deep cultural knowledge and dedication to the preservation of Yoruba theatre, Pa Oyewo became a respected figure in Nollywood and academia alike. His contributions helped shape Nigeria’s creative landscape and elevated indigenous storytelling to wider audiences.
