The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the mysterious death of a Christian cleric, Pastor Emmanuel Eyo, whose lifeless body was discovered inside a church auditorium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
The incident occurred late on Saturday, July 25, 2026, after members of the church reportedly became concerned when the pastor failed to emerge following an extended period of private prayers. Church workers who went to check on him reportedly found him lying motionless inside the worship hall and immediately alerted the authorities.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, DSP Timfon John, said officers visited the scene after receiving a distress report and evacuated the body to a mortuary for preservation and further examination.
According to the police, preliminary investigations have not established any signs of foul play. However, detectives have launched a full-scale investigation, while an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the cleric’s death.
Family members, church leaders and close associates have been invited to assist investigators with relevant information as police work to establish the facts behind the tragic incident.
The sudden death has thrown the church community into mourning, with members describing Pastor Eyo as a devoted minister who dedicated his life to prayer, evangelism and community service.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while investigations continue, assuring that the findings of the autopsy and police inquiry will determine the true cause of the cleric’s death.
