The Kebbi State Government has dismissed allegations that some communities in the state have been abandoned to the activities of armed bandits, insisting that security agencies remain actively engaged in protecting lives and property across affected areas.
The government’s position was made public today Sunday, July 26, 2026, in Birnin Kebbi, following reports and criticisms suggesting that several rural communities had been left vulnerable to persistent attacks by bandits and other criminal elements. State officials described the claims as misleading and inconsistent with the security efforts currently being undertaken.
Responding to the allegations, the state government maintained that no community has been surrendered to criminal groups, noting that security forces have continued to carry out coordinated military operations, intelligence gathering and surveillance across flashpoints in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Police and other security agencies.
The government acknowledged that, like other states in Nigeria’s North-West, Kebbi has experienced security challenges linked to banditry and cross-border criminal activities.
However, it stressed that sustained security operations have prevented armed groups from taking permanent control of any community within the state.
Officials further appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing credible intelligence capable of assisting ongoing operations, while urging the public to disregard unverified reports capable of creating panic.
The statement comes amid renewed public concern over insecurity in parts of northwestern Nigeria, where federal and state authorities have intensified joint military operations aimed at dismantling bandit enclaves, restoring normalcy to affected communities and strengthening security along border areas.
