The Nigeria Police Force has declared Mr Manfred Ekpe, a legal practitioner and spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Akwa Ibom State, wanted on 26 February 2026 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. The announcement followed allegations including cyberstalking, threats to life and other offences contained in a police warrant.
According to the statement by the Police Command, Ekpe’s activities allegedly violated sections of the Cybercrimes Act and public safety laws, prompting authorities to seek his arrest to ensure due process. His refusal to appear for questioning (and what the police described as credible evidence linking him to the alleged conduct) led to the declaration.
The ADC has contested the police action, with some party leaders accusing the state government of political interference in law enforcement. Critics argue that the situation reflects broader tensions between opposition groups and political incumbents ahead of the 2027 election cycle, where issues of digital campaigning and political rivalry are increasingly prominent. Observers say the development underscores the delicate balance between ensuring security and safeguarding democratic expression, especially for political actors in volatile environments.
