Police Arrest Two Over ₦4m Bauchi House Robbery, Hunt Remaining Gang Members

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery gang accused of attacking a family in Gadau Town and stealing valuables worth about ₦4 million, while efforts have intensified to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led investigation into the robbery, which occurred in the early hours of June 8, 2026, when five armed men allegedly invaded the residence of a 28-year-old man in Gadau.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects, armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons, allegedly forced their way into the victim’s bedroom, threatened him and his wife, tied them up and escaped with several valuables.

Items reportedly stolen during the operation include a Jincheng motorcycle, five Android mobile phones, 10 wrappers, ₦1 million in cash, three wristwatches and a cap.

Habib said detectives swung into action after a formal complaint was lodged on July 3, leading to the arrest of Salisu Umar, 20, of Gadau, and Sadiq Shehu, 20, of Azare in Katagum Local Government Area.

According to the police, the complainant’s wife identified Shehu during an identification parade as one of the assailants who entered her room and allegedly forced her to open the main gate for the other members of the gang.
Commending the operatives for the breakthrough, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for furthear investigation.

“I commend the DPO and his team for their diligent efforts that led to the arrest of the suspects. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation,” the commissioner said.
Aliyu assured residents that the command would not relent until every member of the gang was brought to justice.

“Concerted efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fleeing suspects and all those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. We also urge members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that will aid the police in curbing crime,” he added.
