The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cult kingpins and recovered a firearm following an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal networks in the state.
The operation, carried out by the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SACS) in Akure on April 11, 2026, was based on credible information provided by the Ondo End Miscreant Group.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the suspects were apprehended in Ondo Town and are believed to be members of the notorious Eiye and Aiye confraternities, groups often linked to violent clashes in parts of the state.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were involved in a cult-related confrontation that occurred on April 9, 2026, within the premises of Adeyemi Federal University of Education, where rival groups reportedly clashed, raising concerns over public safety.
The suspects, identified as Nnamdi Sunday and Adegbuyi Seyi, reportedly cooperated with investigators and led operatives to a suspected Aiye cult hideout located in the Oka Garage area of Ondo Town.
A search of the location led to the recovery of a locally made pistol believed to have been used for criminal activities.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the group and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and violent crime, assuring residents that perpetrators would be brought to justice.
He also commended the Ondo End Miscreant Group for providing timely intelligence that aided the operation, urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with useful information.
The command further expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his support and leadership, which it said has strengthened ongoing efforts to combat crime in the state.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, as the police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State.
