A Muslim cleric, Ladan Gana, has been widely praised following his donation towards securing the release of a Christian man, identified as John Arum.
Gana reportedly contributed ₦100,000 to support efforts to free Arum, who had been abducted by gunmen.
The Jos-based imam, made the donation as part of a collective effort to assist Arum in regaining his freedom. The gesture has since resonated widely on social media and among residents, drawing commendation for its message of unity.
Observers say the development underscores the importance of compassion and solidarity across religious divides, particularly in a country often challenged by sectarian tensions.
“This is how society should function — placing humanity above religious differences,” a community leader in Jos said while reacting to the gesture. “Acts like this remind us that our shared values are stronger than our divisions.”
Leaders in Plateau State have also praised the move, describing it as a powerful example of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect between people of different faiths.
Nigeria, home to large Christian and Muslim populations, has experienced periodic interfaith tensions. However, initiatives and individual acts that promote understanding and solidarity continue to be encouraged by both government and civil society groups.
For many, Sheikh Gana’s donation is more than just financial assistance; it is seen as a timely reminder that empathy, kindness, and shared humanity remain essential in building a more united society.
