Grandfather Arrested For Impregnating His 16yrs Old Granddaughter

A 65-year-old man, Musa Gado, has been arrested and detained in police custody in Niger State after allegedly impregnating his 16-year-old granddaughter. A DNA test has reportedly confirmed he is the biological father of the baby.

The Director-General of the Niger State Child Rights Agency, Hajiya Kaltume Mohammed, disclosed the shocking details to journalists in Minna on Wednesday.

According to Mohammed, the teenager, whose name has been withheld for legal reasons, delivered a baby boy in December 2025. Laboratory results from a DNA test—conducted outside Nigeria at a cost of ₦500,000—confirmed with 99.9999% accuracy that Gado is the child’s father.

“It was an extremely distressing case,” Mohammed said. “When the girl was brought to our agency, she was already six months pregnant. We provided her with medical care and kept her under protection until she delivered. Both parties agreed to a DNA test, and the result left no doubt—her grandfather fathered the baby.”

The agency learned of the case after the victim’s father, Mr Lawal Nababa, filed a complaint in October 2025, alleging that his daughter had been repeatedly assaulted by her maternal grandfather in Mashegu Local Government Area. The teenager, although her parents are alive, had been living with her maternal grandmother from a young age.

Investigators said the accused allegedly made multiple failed attempts to terminate the pregnancy. He continues to deny responsibility, despite the conclusive DNA evidence.

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to face charges once the police complete their investigation.

Mohammed described the case as part of a deeply troubling trend. “Child molestation and incest are alarmingly high in Niger State,” she said. “Since I assumed office in November 2025, we have dealt with numerous cases of rape, some involving close family members. Right now, six major cases are under prosecution, including this one.”

The Director-General reiterated the agency’s commitment to pursuing justice for victims and urged communities to break the silence around sexual abuse within families.
